2017 RAM 1500 vs 2017 Chevrolet Silverado near Noblesville, IN

Are you on the hunt for a full-size half-ton pickup? There are two members of this class that are truly worth your attention: the 2017 RAM 1500 and the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado! The 2017 RAM 1500 is a delightful truck with a bold grille and sculpted body. It offers many engine and trim options, including the only diesel engine in its class. The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado is a well-rounded truck, but it doesn't stand out from the crowd like the RAM 1500.

2017 RAM 1500 Power & Handling

The 2017 RAM 1500's stand-out features begin under the hood with the choice of three different engines. The lineup starts off with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 that fills the 1500 with 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. Alternatively, buyers who want a bit more power can opt for a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 that charges it with 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. For those searching for a truck with exceptional fuel economy, there's also a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 that pumps out 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque.

2017 Chevrolet Silverado Power & Handling

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado also offers three engine options. The Silverado lineup kicks off with a 4.3-liter V6 that generates 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque. It continues with two other V8 engine options: a 5.3-liter V8 and a 6.2-liter V8. The 5.3-liter V8 is comparable to the 5.7-liter V8 offered by the 1500, although this engine only puts out 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque compared to the 5.7-liter's 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque.

2017 RAM 1500 Features & Design

The 2017 RAM 1500 boldly offers three cab styles, three bed lengths, and 11 trim levels. Bed lengths range from 5-foot-7-inch or 8-foot, and passenger capacity ranges from two to six. Trim levels consist of Tradesman, Express, HFE, SLT, Big Horn, Lone Star, Sport, Rebel, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited. The Tradesman, the workhorse of the lineup, features automatic headlights, 17-inch wheels, a seven-pin wiring harness, air-conditioning, vinyl upholstery and floor covering, a spray-in bedliner, a Class IV receiver hitch, a locking tailgate, cruise control, a tilt steering wheel, and a six-speaker audio system.

2017 Chevrolet Silverado Features & Design

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado features three cab styles, three bed lengths, and six trim levels. Bed lengths and cab styles are similar to those of the 1500. Trim levels for the Silverado include Work Truck (WT), LS, Custom, LT, LTZ, and High Country. Base WT models may feature vinyl seating and a vinyl floor covering, a tilt steering wheel, a driver information display, xenon headlights, tinted glass, a bed light, and a 4.2-inch display.

The RAM 1500 and Chevy Silverado are two trucks with two very different personalities. The Chevrolet Silverado offers a well-rounded package but doesn't offer anything particularly unique. The RAM 1500 is much more exciting, offering more personality, more stand-out styling, and more opportunity for configuration changes. Do either of these trucks sound like the right vehicle for you?
