2018 Jeep Compass vs 2018 Toyota RAV4 near Noblesville, IN

Every year, car brands improve their vehicle models to reflect changes in technology, consumer preferences, and design ideas. The Jeep Compass was completely redesigned in 2017, and through this metamorphosis gained entirely new exterior and interior designs, newly advanced driver safety aids, an enhanced infotainment system and a new Trailhawk trim level. In the SUV segment, the Toyota RAV4 also received updates for 2018, such as introducing a new exterior paint color, Ruby Flame Pearl. To discover more about what makes these two vehicles unique, continue reading below.

2018 Jeep Compass Power & Handling

There is one engine choice for the Jeep Compass, a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 180-hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. Standard models come with a six-speed manual transmission but buyers are provided the option of selecting a nine-speed as well. Front wheel drive is also standard. The off-road trim, the Trailhawk, comes equipped with all-wheel drive and offers great handling when driving on muddy or snowy roads.

2018 Toyota RAV4 Power & Handling

The RAV4 has a standard engine as well as a hybrid alternative. The standard version of the RAV4 receives a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that garners 176-hp and 172 lb-ft of torque and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The higher-end trims, SE and Limited, can come as a hybrid. The hybrid has an engine capable of 194-hp. All non-hybrid RAV4s come with front-wheel drive, while the hybrid can be outfitted with all-wheel drive.

2018 Jeep Compass Features & Design

There are four trim levels for the Compass: Sport, Latitude, Limited and Trailhawk. All models come with the very popular Uconnect system, Bluetooth, USB Port, and six-speaker sound system. Moving up the trim level will give you add-ons like heated seats, keyless entry, and leather upholstery. Some optional features that many will opt for consist of: Beats audio, a sunroof, a navigation system, Cold Weather package, advanced safety features, and more. The Trailhawk trim is unique in this lineup, being the only one to come standard with all-wheel-drive and a nine-speed automatic. This trim rides on 17-inch wheels with off-road-oriented tires, a raised suspension, and a Selec-Terrain system which enables it to face steep climbs and rocky terrain.

2018 Toyota RAV4 Features & Design

There are six trim levels that coincide with the RAV4: the LE, XLE, Adventure, SE, Limited, and Platinum. Some of the available features among the different trims are Bluetooth connectivity, a rearview camera, Toyota's Entune infotainment system with a 6.1- or 7.0-inch touchscreen, 60/40 split-folding rear seats, a programmable power tailgate, LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, a 360-degree view camera system, a sunroof, and leatherette upholstery. The most attractive aspect of the RAV4 is that it comes standard with several safety features including automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, and automatic high beams. The Adventure trim is Toyota's version of an off-road vehicle, but compared to the Trailhawk, fails to shine. Toyota is also behind the curve in terms of technology, as none of the RAV4 trims are compatible with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

Conclusions

Both of these SUVs are great options. We recommend the Jeep Compass for its more powerful base engine, off-road capabilities, and updated technology. When you are ready to take a test drive, our staff will be here down at Button Dodge.
